|9/11/2013||Funds available to refurbish old barns|
The Washington Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation is offering grants to refurbish barns of historical value. Priority is given to barns that remain in agricultural use and barn owners must match grant awards dollar for dollar. Washington has 500 designated Heritage Barns across all 39 counties. Grant applications are due Oct. 28 at www.daph.wa.gov/heritage-barn-register.

The next deadline for barn owners to submit nomination materials for the Heritage Barn Register is May 31.
Listing is honorary only, but owners of designated state Heritage Barns are eligible to apply for matching grants to assist with barn rehabilitation projects. More information about the program can be found at the Deptartment of Archaeology & Historic Preservation web site.

A map of barns has been added to this site. Now you can look up that old barn you saw last weekend, simply by finding its location.
Other changes have been made to the site, and more barns have been added. There may be some goofs but we are fixing them as fast as we can. Please bare with us, and don't hesitate to let us know what you think.

The Washington Trust for Historic Preservation seeks nominations to its 2010 Most Endangered Historic Properties list. Nomination forms are at the Trust's Web site, http://www.wa-trust.org/. is holding a special exhibit of Barn Art during the month of June, 2009 at 175 West Cedar Street, Sequim. All art featured will be the work of local artists, with a focus on local barns. If you appreciate old barns you must stop by and see this collection.

The barn at Barr and Franson is being demolished. I was notified of this just in time to get some final pictures of the destruction in progress.

After two months of piecemeal demolition, the barn at Mantle's Corner is finally down. Barn wood is available to anyone who wants to carry it off.

The historic Priest Barn in Sequim is being torn down. The process started in January with weather taking out most of the south roof of the building.
