The barn, owned by the Fasola family, was built in 1908 by Augustus William "Gus" Balch. It was known as the first hand hewn board barn in the area.
I recently heard it was actually Henry H Balch who built the barn, but the records I have found so far only confirm the Gus connection. In fact, a map from 1942 lists Irma O Balch as the owner, who shares a grave in Sequim Cemetary with Augustus (and so is assumed to have been his wife). I do hope the lady I spoke with will get back in touch with me, with some clarification.
The land is zoned MU-II (Mixed Use) and is currently for sale. Possible future uses include business parks and professional offices, light and medium manufacturing and some multifamily residential development.
