Barn # 14 William Dick Barn
Carlsborg

Northeast corner of Old Olympic Highway and Kitchen Dick

The barn was built by William Dick in 1916. That year the family had to live in tents on the property because the house hadn't been built yet. During the winter storm of 1916 heavy snow fell, so much that you couldn't see where any of the fences were. The three main supports for that barn which go from the floor to the top of the roof are each single fir trees that were hand hewn from timber cut from the property. Until his retirement in 1943, Mr. Dick operated one of the largest and most successful farms in the East End, and his home and farm were features of the district west of the Dungeness River.

Gene Adolphsen now rents the barn and the surrounding land from a group of six family members, all descendants of William Dick. Much of the crop is hay, but also have things like broccoli and cabbage grown for seed. The farm has been part of the annual County Harvest Festival farm tour.
