Barn # 16 Smith Dairy
Carlsborg

West side of Carlsborg, south of Old Olympic

The main hay barn was built in 1910, with the milk parlor added in 1938. The dairy consistantly ranked high in milk production. In 1963, owner Lloyd Smith won both the Bank of Sequim trophy for herd high in milk production, and the Clallam Co-op trophy for high large herd in butterfat. That year the production figures of the winning herds were the highest ever achieved in the county.

This was still a functioning dairy farm in 2005, including hay for sale. The dairy was not open to public, and soon was no longer in the milk business. At the herd's peak in the mid-90s, they had shipped 2.2 million gallons of milk a year; in May of 2006 the last of the Holsteins were sold off.
