They had been chosen as the Peninsula Dairy Family of the Year in 1960. In 1974 and 1975 Ferd's Holstein cows were the top milk-producing herd in the entire county. The big barn on the property blew down in 1990, but this smaller barn and other structures (including those two silos) still remain. And according to a stipulation in Ferd's will, the trees to the north can never be cut down.
