This barn was built by the Tripp family in 1918 along with the house in the same year. Arda Roy Hunt was a steamboat captain operating the Florence K out of Gig Harbor In 1923 he sold his steamer and used the money to purchase the Tripp farm. He jumped into dairy farming and did well. It sustained the Hunt family through the great depression and through WWII when things were scarce.
There are many many stories of using dynamite to remove the stumps that existed on the property.
For a few years a firm farmed mint on the property and processed it into mint oil for flavorings in the barn. Most of the farm land was finally sold off in 1972 to Weyerhauser for a tree farm.
