There used to be a house on 5th, with a little pond in front and a dilapidated old barn in back. When we first started looking for property in the area (in 1992) this was one of the homes we were shown. At the time we were not impressed. I took a photo of the barn in 2003 (when I started my collection) and another quick shot a year later. In January, 2005 I wanted to get more close-up pictures of the place, but found it had been torn down.
George and Martha Clasen first operated a wheat farm and raised horses in Rosenberg. Because of crop failure and the Depression, they moved to Sequim in 1924 and set about dairy farming on 50 acres. They then lost their land in the stock market crash of 1929. Mrs. Clasen later repurchased 20 acres of their former holdings. In 1990 a portion was disposed of for the development of Clasen Cove Estates. The remaining parcel where this barn was located is currently owned by a medical center.
