A beautifully restored barn, built more than 80 years ago. This parcel was originally part of the dairy of Arthur and Fannie Cays. Electricity was added in 1929. Some years ago the east end of the barn collapsed under an unusually heavy snowfall, and the roof was replaced in metal. The current plot comprises 16 acres, which the new owners intend to use for hay and alfalfa, plus a large vinyard.
Arthur Cays called this farm Twinbrooks, but it may not have been widely known by that name. Arthur sold the farm in 1932. He didn't live there too long; he originally spent many years on the "Downey Place" which was at the foot of the hill where Lotzgesell Road and Hogback Road come together. The Downey Place is completely gone now. Arthur built the house also, not long after they moved there. He built it especially for his family, and made a large playrooom upstairs.
The 100-acre farm was also formerly known as the Hartshorn place, after one of the shareholders of Twin Brooks. It was known as one of the better farms in the area, with good soil conditions and its own irrigaton. Hans and Johanna Schmuck bought all outstanding corporate shares in Twin Brooks in 1960.
