Barn # 6 Lotzgesell Farm
Dungeness

Lamar east of Cays

This is probably the most photographed barn in the area. The main picture shown here is the view of the farm from the Dungeness Cemetary on the hill above the fields.

The homestead began with German tailor George Henry Lotzgesell in 1859 and grew to nearly 1000 acres. The original barn was to the east, and is gone now. This barn was built by George's grandson John Lotzgesell in 1913. The farm is still owned and operated by the Lotzgesell family.

Another barn was built to the east of this one by brother James, but is no longer standing. That one burned in the 1930s, with a fire so intense that it could be seen for miles around.
